About Us

We meet at 7.30pm most Friday evenings at Camp Hill Community Centre, Dayrell Rd, West Hunsbury, NN4 9RR, however occassionally other social events are arranged at alternative venues.

Northampton Model Aero Club was founded in 1932 and has been in continuous operation ever since. In 1982 the club started exchange visits with Marburg Model Flying Club, Northampton's twin town in Germany and continues to do so on a alternate years basis.

The objective of the Club is to promote interest, techniques and friendship among people involved in all aspects of Aeromodelling.

The Club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association, the sport’s governing body. Membership of the BMFA provides the necessary insurance cover and is compulsory for all Club members.

As a Club, we take part in several aspects of aeromodelling, including radio-controlled fixed-wing powered aircraft and gliders, slope soaring and indoor flying.

Although we cannot guarantee to provide instruction for any of our members, we do however have several experienced instructors who would be willing to teach new members, by way a of systematic training programme, to attain a qualified achievement award. Initial training can be provided using club equipment, however,  any new applicant requiring flying instruction will be subject to an appraisal of their ability to undertake and control a fixed wing aeroplane. A realistic assessment of their flying potential will be made after their first three (3) sessions. We currently use Spektrum radio equipment, buddy-boxed for dual control instruction, and therefore members will need to consider this when purchasing/using their own training aircraft.

We have access to a flying field near Higham Ferrers, which is open for flying 7 days a week, where members may fly their models legally and safely.
